New to TSB and need to verify your identity? We’ve made it easy for you to verify who you are in minutes, using your smartphone from anywhere.

Why do you need to verify my identity?

We’re committed to keeping our customers, communities and New Zealand safe. As part of this commitment, we’re required under various laws and regulations to verify your identity before you join us.

We’ve partnered with APLYiD to simplify our joining experience with a digital ID verification tool, so if you usually live in NZ, you’ll no longer need to visit one of our branches to verify your identity and address. You can use this tool to verify your identity when you join us or apply for our products or services online.

Here's what you’ll need to get started - your current NZ driver licence or passport and a smartphone. It will likely take 2-3 minutes to verify your identity using our digital ID verification tool.

How it works.

Check out the steps below to see how our digital ID verification works. After you’ve verified your identify successfully, we’ll be in touch within two business days to finish setting up your account. Sometimes our digital tool may not be able to verify your identity for a number of reasons. If that happens, we’ll contact you to let you know what you need to do. You can still choose to visit one of our branches to verify your identity if you prefer not to use the digital tool.

1. We'll send you an email
You'll receive an email from us with a link to our website and instructions on how to verify your identity using our digital ID verification tool.

2. Have your ID ready
Make sure you have your current NZ driver licence or passport with you.

3. Click the link in the email
This will take you to our website. If you're on a desktop, scan the QR code with your smartphone, or if you're on your smartphone, click the button to continue. You'll be taken to a secure website which will have more information about the process and our digital verification tool provider APLYiD.

4. Consent to using the tool
Before entering any of your ID or address details into the tool, please take the time to read the information around how APLYiD collects and uses your information to verify your identity on behalf of TSB, and then provide your consent to using the tool.

5. Enter your details
Follow the instructions to complete the APLYiD digital ID verification process, including taking a short selfie video, which will capture your likeness to help match you to your ID.

Tips on how to capture your ID

  • Use a current driver licence and passport and make sure it’s not damaged.
  • Take the photo in natural light.
  • Ensure the entire driver licence or passport is shown in the photo. You’ll need to take photos of both sides of your driver licence.
  • Make sure the photos are clear, well-lit and not blurry.

Unfortunately sometimes not all phones are compatible. It could be that you will need to install the latest update or the phone’s version is too old and therefore can’t run the latest software.
